Catherine Tucker Owner and Trainer of HSF:
" I have been very lucky to have been competing on the "AA" circuit since I was 11 years old.
It allowed me the opportunity to see quality horses, riders, and trainers from a young age. My first horse was a 4 year
old thoroughbred and I was a tiny 11 year old. He was very difficult, but I was persistent and patient in every effort
to get him trained and shown. After having him three years he became very rideable and allowed me to sell him in order to buy another young green horse that
was much more talented. I was always the one who wanted to ride it no matter how hard it looked. I was fortunate
in that I was able to show very many horses and ponies on the"AA" circuit that belonged to other people in order to campaign them. Every horse taught me something new.
Watching is a major key to success in riding. Between every class I would go to the big jumper or hunter ring and watch
the horse, the rider, and the relationship between the two. Just as people are, horses are all different as well.
I have had riders that have come to me with broken confidence and trust. I feel that first and foremost as a professional
it is my responsibility to earn the trust from the rider and create confidence. The only way to achieve that is to pair a
rider with a mount that they can trust and become confident on. Success will quickly follow if you have this.
One of my favorite horses is Oh So Suave, a big thoroughbred that took me up through
the "AAA" including Biltmore, Detroit Motor City, Atlanta, Kentucky and many more shows. He and I qualified
and finished 3rd for the year in the $20,000 Southern Child/Adult league. He and I also won the Marshall and Sterling
in the Children's Hunters in Kentucky at the Horse Park. I sold him to purchase a big eq and Junior Hunter horse. His name was Berlin and we had a successful show
record in the Jr Hunters and even Jr/Am Jumpers. I then left for college
at Appalachian State University and even though I came home every weekend that I could,
I knew that Berlin was full of potential that I currently didn't have time for. Kelly Kocher obtained him for his
son Michael who qualified for Maclay Regionals and USETS.
I still came home rode and showed my sister's horse while picking up some lessons
here and there for gas money. Each weekend it seemed that I had more and more people wanting to take lessons, then they wanted
to horse show, and before I knew it I was squeezing a horse show in every weekend that could while I was in college.
I graduated from Appalachian with B.S. in Interior Design and immediately took a job. Everyday I was getting calls
about lessons, people wanting to send their horses for training, and still managing to show a lot! So I thought to myself...why
am I am not working with horses for a living since it something that I love doing every second of the day. So I opened
my own barn, HSF, and in no time I was in business. I recently purchased Oh So Suave back so that he could take other
children's hunters riders to the top. I am so fortunate to have people in my life that are very supportive including
family, friends, and clients that have been with me through the whole process. We had a great 2007-2008 show season
and we are having an Amazing 2008-2009 show season.
I am looking forward to everything that is to come! Without clients
who are also great friends HSF wouldn't be where it is today.
